Description: Brown wooden (possibly camphorwood) sea chest, passengers luggage container, from wreck of the George Marshall. Small partition inside at one end. Metal braces on each corner. Wooden brackets at each end with rope handles. Key hole (but no key) in front. The George Marshall was beached on 15th January, 1862 at Marshall Bay, Flinders Island having been holed by hitting a rock off the Kent group the previous day. All crew and passengers were saved and camped in the dunes until rescued.
