W Lane began as a wharf boy in 1914, and became permanent master of the Rosny or Derwent in 1939; Norman and H T Lane began as firemen in 1919 and later became engineers; R J Lane joined as a deck hand in 1925. All worked with the company until the ferries ceased to run in 1963.
