Back lens is cracked. Flat back section is hinged and opens for insertion of candle or kerosene burner. Flat base, top of main body is curved and has two rings attached, one at either side. Perforated metal cowl (for escape of combustion gases and heat, sits on top of body, with a fluted section atop that, capped off with a protective cap and a metal ring for suspending the lamp. Embossed oval plate on main body with inscription "O. & J. OLIVER. PATENT No. 1240. 286 WAPPING LONDON. The lamp is from the Coogee, a wooden gaffrigged boat which was built at Apple Orchard, Cape Barren Island, by Dick Davey.
