Mr. William Elliot Leith used convict labour in the construction of the building. He was the first Land Grant recipient in the Westbury area and was the former Principal Superintendent of Convicts and Inspector of Public Works at Port Dalrymple in Northern Tasmania from April 1813 until he was replaced in May 1819. The photograph was taken from the northern side of the structure in November 1990.
