Fifty Year Anniversaries of the Airmail Service and Flinders Island Aerodrome

Description: An archival album, A4 size, containing ten black and white and 40 colour photographs, newspaper clippings, sketches and a First Day Cover commemorating fifty years of airmail service to Flinders Island (1932-1982) and fifty years of operations at the Pats River aerodrome (1935-1985). The inaugural air flight pilot was Laurence(Laurie) Johnson. At the commemoration/reenactment his son Peter Johnson flew to Flinders Island in an Auster and passed the mail to John Clifford, the Flinders Island postmaster in 1982. For the 1985 celebration a fly-in was held and a plaque unveiled at the aerodrome.
