He joined the 40th Battalion on the 4th April 1916 and left for the war front on 2nd of July that same year. In 1917 he returned severely wounded in the arm. First of the Woodsdale soldiers to return home. Married Rene O'Connor of Tunnack and they went on to have seven children. The portait is encased in an oval shaped timber frame with a blue edging.
