Description: Forest State School building in May 1928. The first school at Forest was the Church of England day school which opened at Forest in 1848. The first public school opened in 1880 when a school and residence was built at Forest, Tasmania. Between the years 1927-30 five hundred and sixty five pounds was spent on improvements to Forest School. In 1939 the school was enlarged and it became the Forest Area School. Other schools in the area were the Black River School that school opened 1880, the Mengha School 1895-1935 and the West Forest School 1921- 1929.
